Admission Requirements Into the College
I am transferring to UK from EKU Whenever I do the three- two engineering program with the two schools. The requirements for transfer are:
- 24 college credit hours
- 2.0 GPA
Admission Details Into the Engineering Program
Contacting the director of the engineering program, the general admission requirements needed for UK's engineering program are:
Straight from high school, the program admission is needed to have:
Straight from high school, the program admission is needed to have:
- A Math ACT of 23 or higher
- or Math 113 (Calculus 1)
- GPA 2.0 or above in all college work
- 12 hours
- Also, I would need to get general education required to go into the Civil Engineering Program. This includes:
- I also need to have an Engineering Standing. This is basically a director in Civil Engineering approving me to be in the program after having a meeting with me to see if I am ready to be admitted according to classes I have had.
Program Details
I will be transferring to UK After I go to EKU and fulfill all of the general education requirements needed for UK's Civil Engineering Program for a Bachelor's Degree:
- As far as the classes I need, I need the general educations listed above, I need: Introduction to Construction Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Introduction to Environmental Engineering, Introduction to Fluid Mechanics, Civil Engineering Materials 1, Structural Analysis, Soil Mechanics, Seminar, Civil Engineering Systems Design, Water Resources Engineering, and all of the electives I will take in terms of structural, electrical, and technical areas. I need 128 credit hours towards my program and at least a C in each of my CE classes. These are all for a Bachelor Degree.
- The Chair of Construction Engineering, a form of Civil Engineering, is William F. Malloney. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, an M.B.A specialized in industrial and personal relations. and a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware
- The first professor that I found a review of was Robert Walker. He is a professor for the Computer Graphics and Communications class, and according to rate my professor, he is a terrible teacher. He apparently never answers questions, and never announces any of his assignments or tests. People say he is rude and has an awful sense of helping his students. He received an overall rating of 1.6 out of 5. This professor would be awful for me because I usually need things explained to me in great detail before I understand them. If he never answers questions, that is a major problem.
- A professor named Y. Yang teaches a class called Introduction to Environmental Engineering. He is rated as a 2.1 out of 5 on rate my professor. The two reviews of his say that he is hard to understand when he teaches, but he teaches straight from the book. His class seems easy enough if I can follow along in the book, but I have concerns that he won't be a professor that I can really ask for help. A lot of this class is going to be me reading if I get this professor.
- Tim Taylor is a professor for one of the elective courses I will take called Introduction to Construction Engineering. His class, according to rate my professor, is pretty easy and straight forward. He gives tests over his notes and lectures, his lab is easy, and apparently he gives bonus points for attendance to his class. I can see this teacher as being good for me, if he is willing to help me and answer my questions. In the end, he seems like an average professor with a 3.8 out of 5 rating.
Tuition Requirements
- For a lower division resident, the fee for tuition is $5,390 per semester at the college.
- For the cheapest Meal Plan, which has 5 meals a week and 300 Flex Dollars, is $1,371 per semester.
- For my housing fee, the cheapest and simplest dorms cost around $2,393 per semester at Kirwin Tower.
Grants Available to me
Grants that are available whenever I go to UK include:
- The "Breakthrough Technologies Scholarship" which is awarded once a semester with a reward of $2,500. I have not applied for this scholarship yet. I will need a 2.75 to 4.0 GPA, an enrollment in the engineering college, be a Junior or Senior, fill out all necessary essays and forms, and have 12 credit hours and 6 lab hours towards my major.
- My KEES money which gives me $2,428 according to my 4.0 GPA and 26 ACT score
- Finally, there is the Buildium's Build U Up Scholarship", this a scholarship that awards $2,500. it is offered once a semester. The requirements for this scholarship are to fill out all necessary forms and essays. They are looked over by a committee and awarded in the spring and fall.
Important Deadlines
- The deadline for applications for the "Buildiam's" scholarship, above, is October 1 for the Fall deadline and April 1 for the Spring deadline.
- For the "Breakthrough" scholarship above, applications are due April 30 for the Fall next year and October 30 for the Spring semester.
- FAFSA is due February 15.
- Scholarship acceptance before admission is due May 1.
- Admission application is due December 1
- Housing application is due February 15
- Competitive scholarship deadline is December 1
Extracurricular Activities
I don't plan to be involved in any extracurricular activities at UK. This is because after I graduate from EKU, I am going t need to get a job with a degree that I can get from EKU. I would enroll in the work study at UK, but I am going to need a larger income by the time I am 21. I need to find a job with a pre-engineering and physics degree. I will end up either getting a teaching job up in Lexington or gaining a basic engineering job.
Dorm of Interest
My dorm of preference, if I get a dorm, is going to be at Kirwin Tower on the south side of the campus. This is because it is one of the cheapest housing plans on campus and has very simple dorm rooms. While the tower is in the south, it isn't to far to walk, in my opinion, to get to engineering square on campus where most of my classes would be. It may seem far away, but I don't mind walking a long distance. I have concerns with this dorm mainly because it is a long walk to a food place. They're on opposite sides of the campus from each other. Other than walking concerns though, I have high hopes for this dorm since even though it is the cheapest, it still looks nice.
