This is annotation practice in literary analysis for criticisms like marxist, formalism, and reader's response.
This is my first application of annotating for formalist criticism. This was done as well as criticizing a few other poems like The Jabberwocky with psychoanalytical criticism.
This was practice with how to do modern reader response criticism. I looked at "Macbeth" by Shakespeare in order to practice going deeper into text and finding evidence and a general claim about the paper. In this case, the thesis was saying that the theme communicated in "Macbeth" can be translated and taken by a modern audience.
The official first draft of my literary criticism paper.
The copy of Walden that I used for evidence in my paper.
This was my first planning for my literary criticism essay. I attempted to take a biographical view of the piece. To sum it up, I was talking about how Thoreau's life experiences lead him to write Walden. I decided to do a different criticism since this thesis is not able to be argued.
This is the outline that I first used for my first paper with my criticism. This was a paper looking at Walden from a modern stand point. I tried to make my paper based on saying that Thoreau's lessons can be translated to today's society. The bottom of the second page is notes that I used to write my second attempt at the essay. The main problem with the previous paper was that it was far to wordy and did not relate back to my thesis enough.
This is my final and third planning for my literary criticism. This is a very dimple outline. I used the evidence written in my second outline to show characterization in the second essay. This paper was more simple than my second essay since it was a lot more simplistic, and I only had to prove my thesis with one literary element.

Break Down of Sources Used
- Walden is used to have in- text evidence that Thoreau characterized society in a negative way. Thoreau, based upon Linda Corrente from Barron's Book Notes, was someone who was over society so much that he chose to leave it. He had suffered much loss before living in the woods, such as losing his brother and his school that he and his brother ran. By his mid twenties, he decided to go out and live in the woods to live simply rather than live in the complicated ruling society of Concord ("Walden"). the article is a selection from a collection of student tools used to discuss Walden.
- Corrente's book notes book notes as said before were a source used in order to gain information on the life of Thoreau and his historical background before he wrote the book Walden.
- From powell.com, a book shopping website, I gained information on the credibility on Barron's Book Notes. These book notes are apparently a part of student tools discussing Walden.
- The article "Thoreau's Walden" is used to view Walden in a symbolistic way. From this, I gain the idea that Thoreau uses examples in his home town of Concord in order to display that people in his time were vulnerable to falling for and believing in anything. - According to streamingfaith.com, Cooper is a chairman for a psychological institute of studies in Atlanta.
